I first met Wayne as a work collegue in 1989 when I started as a land surveyor with Manchester City Council. He quickly became a good friend . Wayne was excellent at his job and I quickly had a huge respect for him not only as a surveyor but as man. He helped me on many projects including at Manchester Airport and in sewers. At the airport he taught me how to speak to both air traffic control and ground control by radio. He also demonstrated safe driving and behavior on apron areas, taxiways and the runway. Wayne was very popular with people at the airport and I was often asked for him specifically to work there. He was unflappable, on one occasion I was asked 'how do you get Wayne to panic? ' I replied 'you don't, he will get the job done whatever it takes ' . Wayne had a unique knack of solving problems, on many occasions was I pondering on how to proceed with a job and Wayne would come up with a solution so simple that I would say to my self 'why didn't I think of that ?'. We some times had to work in very dangerous and unpleasant situations such as sewers and Wayne would never refuse. I couldn't think of a better man I know to have with me. We had many laughs together and he will be sadly missed not just by me but many people. Love to all his family. You don't need me to tell you how special he was. Steve Bruce
